About University Hospital Freiburg

University Hospital Freiburg (UHF) is one of the three best and most respected medical institutions in Germany. The hospital was established on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and it has been one of the outstanding hospitals ever since its foundation in 1457.
UHF is a perfect example of a successful facility operating on modern medicine. It has 42 departments, 21 institutes, and 10 specialized centers. The departments consist of a total number of 1610 beds where nearly 71,500 inpatients are treated every year.  More than 60,000 outpatients get diagnosed and treated by the state-of-the-art equipment annually in the hospital's outpatient clinics. UHF has a remarkable history as well as an award-winning medical staff few of which have been Noble laureates. The staff consists of 12,000 employees, 1,360 of which are specialized doctors.
The hospital is supplied with the latest, cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics as well as the state-of-the-art operation theaters. University Hospital Freiburg was the first facility in the world to perform some operations such as the TIPS procedure and robotic-assisted brain surgery. It was also the first German facility to go through with the Jarvik-2000 artificial heart implantation and even succeeded in performing a kidney transplantation surgery where blood groups were incompatible. Patient care, teaching and research projects are all combined in the hospital to provide the best quality care for patients, bring up outstanding doctors and enhance the technological equipment of the hospital.
