Department of Cardiac Surgery

Department of Cardiac Surgery at University Hospital Freiburg provides the surgical care required for patients of all ages with cardiac diseases. The department seeks to provide each patient with their own tailor-made and risk-free management plan and with this in mind, it has been trying to increase both diagnostic and therapeutic minimally invasive procedures and replacing more dangerous operations.
With Prof. Dr. Med. Friedhelm Beyersdorf as the head, more than 4,500 operations are performed annually at the department. The research team of the department is conducting studies to better understand congenital anomalies as well as how to best manage them. Constant enhancing the equipment is also another priority of the department to improve the prognosis and the outcome of operations.
