Department of Ophthalmology

Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Freiburg provides care for patients with eye diseases. It is one of the highly recognized medical facilities for ophthalmology in Germany and offers treatment for the full spectrum of ophthalmological diseases, from common to rare. The department is in possession of state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics for the early accurate diagnosis and best outcome.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Thomas Reinhard, the department treats more than 5,000 inpatients every year and offers the diagnosis and treatment for each disease according to the latest methods. The research unit of this department combines research and clinical experience to cure eye diseases and prevent some of them.

  • Corneal surgery (in particular, all forms of corneal transplantation, perforating and lamellar keratoplasty, limbal stem cell transplantation and amniotic transplantation).
