Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Freiburg provides surgical care for patients of all ages with diseases affecting the central and peripheral nervous systems. The department has the cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics along with a great team of surgeons and medical staff, all to ensure the best treatment for patients and it has been divided into stations for each category of the common and dangerous diseases, for example, for patients with von Hippel-Lindau disease and other spine disorders, 28 beds are available while 13 beds are equipped for those with diseases of the base of the skull. The department also works in close cooperation with the Epilepsy Center and has 12 beds dedicated solely to epileptic patients.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Jurgen Beck, the department of neurosurgery treats more than 4,000 inpatients every year and is also participating in research projects in some fields such as epilepsy, hemangioblastoma, peripheral nerve diseases, and neuro-oncology.
