Department of Neurology

Department of Neurology at University Hospital Freiburg provides care for patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases. The department is certified as a national Stroke Center and Neurovascular Center and has a special ward dedicated to stroke patients where more than 1,500 patients are treated every year in the 14 beds that the unit is composed of. Treatment, monitoring, and prevention with the correct prophylactics are all provided in this ward which is recognized by the German Stroke Society.
The department also consists of regular wards consisting of 25 beds where 4,000 inpatients get treated annually under the guidance of  Prof. Dr. Med. Cornelius Weiller. The department of neurology at UHF has been also ranked among the reference centers for Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, meningitis, and Lyme disease. Ongoing studies by the research unit of the department are mainly concerned with diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and Huntington’s disease.
