Department of General and Visceral Surgery at University Hospital Freiburg provides surgical care for patients with visceral diseases that require surgical intervention. The department offers surgical removal of begin and malignant tumors of the esophagus, stomach, intestine, liver, and pancreas. The department has a specialized center for Metastatic Surgery where metastases from and to the gastrointestinal tract as well as internal organs are treated. Surgeries for the complications of inflammatory intestinal diseases and other procedures such as bariatric surgery and endoscopic surgeries are also conducted by the expectational team of surgeons of the department.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Stefan Fichtner-Feigl, the department treats more than 3,000 inpatients every year and focuses on the minimally invasive procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of benign tumors. The department also performs transplantation surgeries of the liver with a high success rate.
