Department of General Pediatrics at University Hospital Freiburg provides care for children and adolescents with acute or chronic diseases. The department offers its service for inpatients as well as those in need of emergency care all hours of the day. The department of pediatrics takes pride in its diagnostic equipment and special features such as a Molecular Genetic Laboratory for Pulmonary and Allergic Disorders and another Laboratory for the Diagnosis of Metabolic Disorders.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Ute Spiekerkötter, the department treats more than 5,100 inpatients every year. The research unit of the department is working towards the early detection and management of genetic diseases.
