Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endocrinology and Infectious Diseases at University Hospital Freiburg provides care for patients with diseases of the digestive organs and endocrinological as well as infectious diseases. With the help of the latest technologies, the department possesses all means to diagnose and treat the full range of diseases, from common to rare and from simple to complex and has its special attention directed towards the management of Crohn’s disease. There are also clinical studies conducted by the experienced research team of the department for new therapeutic approaches to early diagnose and treat various diseases of the GIT tract.
The department is a certified center by the German Cancer Aid and offers a tailor-made therapy plan for each of its patients due to its close cooperation with the Department of General and Visceral Surgery, Nuclear Medicine and Radiology. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Robert Thimme, the department treats more than 3,200 inpatients every year mostly suffering from diabetes mellitus, viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, GERD, and Crohn's Disease.
