University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf is recognized as one of the best 10 hospitals in Germany by FOCUS Magazine. The UKE was established in 1889 and ever since it’s been a pioneer in the medical field in all Europe. The University Hospital Hamburg Eppendorf has more than 30 departments where patients are treated according to the national standards of quality care. The UKE has a total number of 1,738 beds where more than 13,000 patients are treated every year. It also has outpatient clinics and operating rooms where over 34,000 outpatients receive medical care and 5,700 procedures are performed. 
The University Hospital Hamburg Eppendorf Holds the position of the third-largest employer in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg as the hospital staff consists of over 11,000 employees, nearly 3,000 of which are specialists. The hospital has a research center where studies concerning the diagnostics and therapeutics of neuroscience, cardiovascular system, oncology, infections, and inflammations are conducted and papers are published. The hospital was certified as the first fully digital medical facility in Europe in 2011.
