University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden is recognized as one of the best medical facilities in Germany, according to FOCUS Magazine. The hospital provides maximum care for the full range of various diseases. The university hospital consists of 26 clinics, 4 institutes, and 17 specialized centers which all work in cooperation with the research institutes of the hospital to ensure patients are getting the most advanced and optimal care. The hospital is expanding its grounds as it recently established new surgical emergency rooms, operating theaters, intensive care units, and new specialized outpatient departments equipped with the latest equipment. Also, new 132 beds have been added to 4 nursing stations.
The university hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in Saxony and the sole one to offer maximum care in the area of East Saxony. It consists of 1,410 beds and 200 places where over 57,100 inpatients and 277,400 outpatients get treated every year. It has a wide catchment area, extending from Görlitz to Glauchau, from Bad Brambach to Hoyerswerda. The hospital is a large employer as the number of full-time staff is more than 5,000, of which there are about 1,000 specialized doctors.
