Department of Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides surgical care for patients with diseases of the digestive tract, blood vessels and organs of the thoracic cavity. FOCUS Magazine has recognized the department as one of the best facilities in the field of surgical treatment of colon cancer in Germany. The department has an established Gastrointestinal Cancer Center where the latest therapeutic practices and guidelines are implemented to provide optimal care for patients. Pancreatic cancer is one of the main concerns of the department.
The department has 8 modern operating theaters which are all equipped with the most advanced technology and 5 wards with 28 beds in each ward where about 2,750 inpatients are treated every year under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Jürgen Weitz. The department is also in close cooperation with the Department of Orthopedics & Trauma Surgery and Neurosurgery.
