Department of Urology

Department of Urology at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides care for patients with diseases of the urinary and male genital systems. The department is considered to be one of the best medical facilities for the treatment of prostatic cancer in Germany, according to FOCUS Magazine. Main concerns of the department are kidney cancer, bladder cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney stones and urinary incontinence. Other specializations are kidney transplantation, pediatric urology, and neuro-urology. The department is one of the biggest centers for urology in Germany and works in close cooperation with the Departments of Nephrology, Radio-Oncology, and Oncology to provide optimal care for patients with serious diseases.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Christian Thomas, the department treats more than 5,000 inpatients every year. The department consists of general wards, operating theaters as well as an intensive care unit and takes pride in its modern therapeutic techniques and minimally invasive procedures such as stereotactic prostate biopsy, focal prostate cancer therapy, and da Vinci surgical system.
