Department of Otolaryngology (ENT)

Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides care for patients with diseases of the ear, nose, and throat. The department has an exceptional medical team consisting of 4 professors, 8 senior physicians, 16 specialist, and assistant doctors. All of which are qualified to provide advice, therapy planning, and treatment of many different ENT diseases. The department consists of a general ward, a day clinic, an outpatient operation ward and recently established new surgical center termed Haus 32 where over 400 patients with head-neck tumors are provided with the most advanced surgical treatment every year. 
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Thomas Zahnert, the department treats over 3,000 inpatients and 12,000 outpatients annually. The department directs special attention towards the treatment of patients with hearing loss by implants. Over 120 patients with severe hearing impairment are treated every year by the department through its close cooperation with Saxon Cochlear Implant Center. Patients are also provided with a specialized team for rehabilitation and speech communication practice. The Ear Research Center Dresden is a pioneering facility for the development of advanced measures and equipment for microsurgery and hearing systems.
