Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides surgical care for patients with diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. FOCUS Magazine considered the department to be one of the best facilities in Germany in the area of joint replacement surgery for 8 consecutive years. The department is also a certified Endoprosthetics Center that performs over 1,000 joint replacement surgeries annually.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Klaus-Dieter Schaser, the department treats over 6,700 inpatients every year and offers its high and modern quality care according to the standards of the German Trauma Society. The department also has an emergency surgical unit consisting of 7 treatment rooms with 2 specially equipped shock rooms for polytraumatized patients.
