Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides care for patients with diseases of the eye and orbit. The department has remarkable experience specifically in the field of glaucoma, vascular occlusive diseases, tumors of the eye and surgeries for cataract and nasolacrimal duct diseases. The department is equipped with the most advanced diagnostics and therapeutics which allows for the implementation of the latest surgical techniques.
The department consists of 2 general wards with 41 beds, a pediatric ward with 8 beds and an outpatient clinic where over 5,500 inpatients and about 14,500 outpatients are treated under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Lutz E. Pillunat annually. The medical team of the department is composed of 27 specialized doctors and many qualified nurses who provide the patients with optimal care. The department also has a specialized laser unit for the treatment of refractive errors and retinal diseases.
