Department of Oncology at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides care for patients with benign and malignant neoplasms of various organs. The department is certified by the German Cancer Society and is also in cooperation with Departments of Surgery, Radiation Therapy, Radiology and Pathology which allows the department to develop a treatment plan which is tailor-made for each patient to improve the prognosis and reduce the possibility of complications. The department is a significant member of the University Cancer Center where there is access to state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic techniques as well as the most advanced radiation therapy.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Gunnar Folprecht, the department also offers palliative medicine for patient with terminal stages of various cancerous tumors which has the aim of improving the patient’s remaining time. This service can also be provided at home by the qualified medical team. The research unit of the department is conducting many studies and clinical trials for developing more accurate diagnostics and effective therapy methods.
