University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden

Head of the Department
Prof. Dr. Jörg Kotzerke
Department of Nuclear Medicine
Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides the latest radioactive-fueled equipment for patients with thyroid diseases and organ neoplasms. These cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics that are powered by radiation help early detection and successful treatment of certain types of diseases, such as thyroid and oncological diseases of organs. The department is in cooperation with similar departments on both national and international levels and also consists of a medical team of high-level experts in nuclear medicine to provide patients optimal care.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Jörg Kotzerke, the department treats about 1,000 inpatients every year about 40% of which suffers from hyperthyroidism. The research unit of the department believes knowledge is earned and meant to be passed on, that’s why they’re a member of the DGN, especially in their catchment area. The research projects are both basic medical and applied research to upgrade the equipment and better comprehend disease sensitivity and specificity to radionuclides therapy.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Dresden is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of:
• Thyroid cancer
• Hyperthyroidism
• Hypothyroidism
• Kidney cancer
• Liver cancer
• Lung cancer
