Department of Neurosurgery

Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides surgical care for patients with diseases of central and peripheral nervous systems. The department offers its service at the latest and highest care standards according to DIN EN ISO 9001: 2015 and has special attention directed towards pediatric neurosurgery by its cooperation with the Department of Pediatric Neurology. The department is fully equipped with cutting-edge diagnostics and surgical equipment and follows the latest guidelines to provide quality postoperative care and rehabilitation. One of the special features of the department is the use of 3-Tesla MRI which allows for determining the extent of tumor resection during the operation.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Gabriele Schackert, about 2,000 inpatients are treated in the department annually. The main focuses of the departments are epilepsy and neurovascular diseases as it has a hybrid operating room where complicated procedures can be performed. The department is also certified by the German Cancer Society and the German Spine Society.
