Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides care for pregnant women, females with diseases of the breast and reproductive organs as well as newborns. The department, along with 10 other facilities, forms the Comprehensive Cancer Center Dresden where the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of gynecologic tumors and breast cancer occur and it is also certified by the German Cancer Society for its work in these specialties. The department is equipped with the most advanced modern diagnostics and therapeutics and follows the latest guidelines for conservative treatment. The other important focuses of the department are the treatment of endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and breast abscess.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Pauline Wimberger, the department treats more than 6,600 inpatients every year. In the area of obstetrics, the department manages pregnancy, diagnoses high-risk ones and manages them and also provides postpartum care for both baby and mother. Over 1,100 childbirths occur annually at the highly-equipped delivery rooms of the department.
