Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at University Hospital Tübingen provides surgical care for patients with diseases of the ear, nose, and throat as well as malignancies of the head and neck. The department has one of the largest Head and Neck Cancer Center in Germany and a well-known Cochlear Implant Center. It is the pioneering center that was certified by the independent OnckoZert GmbH of the German Cancer Society as it is fully equipped with the most advanced diagnostics and therapeutics for inflammatory, neoplastic, allergic, autoimmune and infectious diseases of the ear, nose, throat and the tumors of the larynx, pharynx, mouth, face and salivary glands.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Hubert Löwenheim, over 5,500 operations are conducted and over 5,100 inpatients and 35,000 outpatients are treated every year at the department with a success rate of 96%. The department has a Cochlear Implantation Center where about 1,000 operations on the inner ear are performed annually. The research unit is conducting research projects in the field of diagnostics and implantology as well as molecular auditory physiology.
