Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Tübingen provides conservative and surgical care for patients with diseases of the eye and orbit. The department is considered an advanced center for its specialty in Germany that offers its medical service on both an outpatient and inpatient basis. The department conducts research projects and teaching activities and is supplied with the latest treatments and surgical interventions along with high-quality equipment in order to perform complex operations with the highest possible success rate.
The department consists of 77 beds and 6 operating theaters where about 6,000 inpatients are treated and 22,000 operations are conducted every year under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Karl Ulrich Bartz-Schmidt. The research unit of the department is one of the 13 medical centers of excellence of the State of Baden-Württemberg and the only ophthalmological research center among them. The unit has nearly 15 ongoing research projects.
The Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Tübingen is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of:
