Department of Cardiology and Angiology

Department of Cardiology and Angiology at University Hospital Tübingen provides care for patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system. The department is the German Heart Center of Competence Tübingen that directs great concern towards the diagnosis and treatment of coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, and heart failure and it is highly specialized in the treatment of aortic stenosis for which it has successfully performed 900 procedures in the past 10 years. The department is known as one of the few centers in the world to perform sparing techniques without general anesthesia for the treatment of aortic stenosis.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Meinrad Paul Gawaz, the department treats about 5,000 inpatients every year. The department also has a Chest Pain Unit certified by the German Cardiac Society. This unit has a great medical team that cares for patients with critical conditions. The research unit of the department has ongoing projects in the field of interventional cardiology, and cardiac imaging.  The department also conducts massive researches on the prevention of myocardial damage.
