Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at German Heart Center Berlin offers surgical care for children and adolescents with congenital and acquired diseases of the cardiovascular system. The department offers the full spectrum of the most advanced diagnostics and therapeutics as well as the latest surgical techniques for the treatment of congenital heart defects as well as acquired heart disorders. The department is accredited by the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association for its activities and success in the field. The department is a pioneering center in the fields of mechanical heart support systems implantation and heart transplantation in all of Europe.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Joachim Photiadis, the department performs over 600 cardiac operations every year. The department is greatly concerned with the early detection and treatment of congenital heart defects as it provides the minimally invasive surgical equipment and sparing techniques as well as follows the guidelines of the German and International Professional Societies of Pediatric Surgery.
