University Hospital Würzburg, founded a few years after the establishment of the university in 1402, is one of the oldest hospitals in Germany and is currently one of the best medical facilities in Germany according to FOCUS Magazine. The hospital is well-known both nationally and internationally for the success and achievements in all fields of modern medicine as it has state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment as well as excellent specialized medical teams.
The facility is composed of more than 20 departments adding up to 1438 beds that get occupied by 61,500 inpatients every year. It also has outpatient clinics for each department as well as specialized centers where the staff treats 533,000 outpatients annually. Specialized centers work in cooperation with the departments to ensure the patients get optimal care, such as the General Cancer Center with the Department of Oncology, the Stem Cell Therapy Center with the Department of Hematology, the Breast Health Center with the Department of Gynecology, and the Thoracic Surgery Center with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
