University Hospital RWTH Aachen is classified as one of the top hospitals in Germany by FOCUS Magazine. It’s also recognized by the IQM and the German University Hospital. It was established in 1985, that’s why it was formerly called the ‘New Clinic’.  The hospital provides top quality medical service for their patients as it has the extraordinary resources of about 60 departments summing up to 1,297 beds where more than 7,000 experienced, qualified medical staff members care for the patients using the most advanced diagnostics and therapeutics. With Prof. Dr. med. Thomas H. Ittel as the director, the hospital treats about 50,000 inpatients and nearly 250,000 outpatients every year. This hospital has a highly specialized center for the elderly as well as a Lung Center, a Heart Center, a Spine Center, a center for Rare Diseases and a Transplant Center.
University Hospital RWTH Aachen has an excellent research unit that is formed of 31 clinics, 18 clinical-theoretical institutes, 7 pre-clinical institutes, and 3 dental clinics. The team of researchers has more than 40 areas they are concerned with at the moment. Diseases pathways, organ transplantation, and neuroscience are of the main research areas.
