Department of Pediatric Cardiology

Department of Pediatric Cardiology at University Hospital Muenster offers medical care for children and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart diseases. Modern therapeutic methods such as Catheter Intervention Therapy is one of the special features of the department. The department is in close cooperation with the Departments of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine and the EMAH Center to ensure patients get the full high-quality care for cardiac disorders. The department is a pioneer in the field of using ultrasound monitoring during surgical intervention for congenital heart defects in Germany. One of the concerns of the department is providing psychological support for the children and keeping their mental state on the positive side. 
With Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Gerd Kehl as the head of the department, about 500 inpatients are treated every year in this department. Another priority of the department is research activities. The research unit of the department works towards understanding the regeneration ability of the embryonic heart and cardiac growth as well as developing better therapeutics for heart defects.
