Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Muenster provides the medical care needed by patients with eye diseases. The department is in possession of the latest diagnostics and therapeutics to ensure that the patient gets optimal care. The department treats more than 4,000 inpatients every year, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Nicole Eter who has been recognized as one of the best ophthalmologists in Germany for consecutive years, according to FOCUS Magazine.
The department has an in-building Eye Bank which was established in 1995. This Eye Bank allows the department to offer corneal transplantations making it one of the best medical institutions of its kind.
The research unit of the department is conducting studies on the ocular effects of protein disorders, retinal diseases, glaucoma, macular edema, and corneal diseases. The department is the main member of the UKM Reading Center which was certified by the DIN ISO.
