University Hospital Muenster

Head of the Department
Prof. Dr. Michael Schäfers
Department of Nuclear Medicine
Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Muenster offers state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics charged by radioactive materials. The main concern of the department is thyroid diseases. Inflammatory, autoimmune and neoplastic diseases of the thyroid glands are diagnosed and treated by the latest radioisotope equipment. Thyroid and parathyroid glands examinations mainly fine needle puncture, iodine whole-body scintigraphy, thyroid sonography, and scintigraphy are all carried out at the department with the use of the latest technology and equipment.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Michael Schäfers, the department treats more than 1,000 inpatients every year. Diagnostics such as PET-CT, PET-MRI, gamma camera, and SPECT-CT are the main methods used for therapeutics, specific methods are used for specific types of cancer. MIBG therapy is indicated for neuroblastoma, PSMA therapy is used for prostate cancer while SIR therapy is used for liver cancer at the department with high precision.
Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Muenster is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of:
• Prostate cancer
• Neuroendocrine tumors
• Neuroblastoma
• Pheochromocytoma
• Bone metastases
• Liver cancer
• Liver metastases
• Non- Hodgkin lymphoma
• Goiter
• Thyrotoxicosis
• Thyroid tumor
