Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital Muenster provides surgical care for patients with diseases affecting the nervous system. The department consists of 42 general inpatients beds and a specialized intensive care unit which is in cooperation with Departments of Anesthesiology and Surgical Intensive Care. Surgical intervention for neurological tumors, neurological vascular diseases, skull base injuries and diseases, as well as epilepsy surgery, are all offered by the department. Thanks to the remarkable team of surgeons and the state-of-the-art equipment allowing for such surgeries to be performed with a great level of excellence.
Neuro-oncology is one of the main interests of the department and it’s a field where the department has an extraordinary history of success and achievements. The department is ranked among the best medical facilities in Germany for the treatment of brain tumors. The surgical treatment of gliomas, chordomas, meningiomas, and neuromas are the areas where the medical staff is specialized. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Walter Stummer, the department treats more than 1,700 inpatients every year. The department works in cooperation with other specialized departments to develop the best possible management plan for each patient.
