Department of Neurology

Department of Neurology at University Hospital Muenster provides medical care for patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases. The department is ranked as one of the best medical institutions for Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease in Germany. The combination of qualified medical staff, the cooperation with Departments of Neurosurgery and Radiology and the cutting-edge equipment is the reason why many patients choose this department as their treatment center. With Prof. Dr. Med. Heinz Wiendl as the head of the department, about 4,000 inpatients are treated there every year, nearly 1,000 of these patients suffer from cerebral infarction.
The department consists of a day clinic, Stroke Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Epilepsy Center, Neurogenetic Laboratory, Neurosomological  Laboratory, and Electrophysiological Laboratory. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Sven G. Meuth, the Translational Neurology Institute enhances the research unit of the Department of Neurology at UKM and both are mainly concerned with clinical and basic research on neurological diseases.
