Department of Hematology, Hemostaseology, Oncology, and Pulmonology

Department of Hematology, Hemostaseology, Oncology, and Pulmonology at University Hospital Muenster is concerned with providing care for patients with blood diseases, coagulation disorders, tumors, and lung diseases. It’s is established as one of the best medical institutions of its field by FOCUS Magazine in Germany and is also considered to be a national reference center. The department is formed of 6 main units. Three general wards, in one of which the department offers physical and psychological rehabilitation for patients. The remaining 3 units are a day clinic and 2 bone marrow transplant centers.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Georg Lenz, more than 2,150 inpatients are treated in this department every year, many of which suffer from bone marrow cancer and need transplantation. The department has been performing bone marrow transplantation procedures since 1999 and now over 150 bone marrow transplantation operations are executed every year. This department was the first medical facility of its kind to be certified by the prestigious JACIE. 
The department is a member of the West German Tumor Center and it offers the latest diagnostics and the most effective therapeutic approaches for cancer patients. Psycho-oncological support is also provided as it is known that cancer patients are likely to suffer psychological distress. The pulmonology and hemostaseology units of this department work in close cooperation with specialists from other departments to develop the optimal management plans. The research team of the department has its focus directed towards basic and clinical researches on leukemia, lymphoma, tumor metastasis and pneumonia.

  • 2005 - 2009 Postdoctoral Fellow in the Laboratory of Dr. Louis Staudt at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda (USA).
  • 2009 - 2014 Professor of "Molecular pathogenesis of malignant lymphomas" at the University Hospital Charité Berlin.
  • 2012 - 2013 Senior Physician in the Department of Hematology, Oncology and Tumor Immunology at the University Hospital Charité Berlin (Campus Virchow Hospital).
