Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics

Department of Gynecology & Obstetrics at University Hospital Muenster provides medical care for pregnant women, females during and after their reproductive period and as well as newborns. The department is recognized as one of the best medical facilities in Germany in the field of obstetrics by FOCUS Magazine. The department has the latest diagnostics and therapeutics for gynecological diseases, gynecological tumors, hormonal imbalance, obstetrics, and perinatal medicine. The department is specialized in the treatment of tumors of the female reproductive organs as it is a part of the Comprehensive Cancer Society and is certified by the German Cancer Society. The obstetrics unit of the department offers the care for women during pregnancy and delivery as well as newborns. The department provides therapeutics approaches to fertility disorders. 

Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Ludwig Kiesel, the department treats more than 4,300 inpatients and delivers nearly 1,000 live births every year. The department is a part of the UKM Breast Center, along with the Departments of Clinical Radiology, Pathology, Human Genetics, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Andrology and Radiation Therapy. The clinical studies of the department are mainly directed towards early detection of breast cancer which improves the prognosis.
