Department of General Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Hypertensiology and Rheumatology at University Hospital Muenster offers the diagnostics and therapeutic measures needed by patients with kidney diseases, hypertension, and rheumatological diseases. The department also performs more than 100 kidney transplantation operations every year, in cooperation with the Department of General and Visceral Surgery. It is recognized as one of the best and most successful centers for kidney transplantation in Germany.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Hermann-Joseph Pavenstädt, the department treats more than 3,000 inpatients, 8,000 outpatients, and nearly 14,000 emergency patients. every year. The department consists of 31 beds in the general wards, 12 in the emergency room, 8 beds in the kidney transplant ward and an intensive care unit. The Rheumatology Unit of the department is highly advanced with its state-of-the-art technological equipment and experienced medical staff. The unit is in close cooperation with specialist departments for the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
