Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology

Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg provides conservative and surgical care for patients with diseases of the musculoskeletal system and injuries. The department is a Supra-Regional Trauma Center that is certified as an Age Trauma Center and an Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery Center. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Markus Rickert, the medical staff treats over 1,000 inpatients every year in the 80 beds of the three general wards and the intensive care unit.
FOCUS Magazine has recognized the department as one of the best facilities in Germany thanks to its advanced diagnostics, such as PET-CT and MRI, as well as surgical therapeutic techniques. In the field of spinal surgery, the department has achieved excellent results in the implementation of dorsoventral spinal fusion, kyphoplasty, and surgical interventions for the treatment of herniated discs.
