Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg provides care for women during their reproductive period, pregnant women as well as newborns. The department has been recognized as one of the best obstetrics facilities by FOCUS Magazine in Germany. The department has achieved excellent results in the fields of cancers of the uterus, cervix, ovaries, and breast with the use of the most advanced diagnostics, chemotherapeutics, and surgical interventions. One of the main concerns of the department is the early detection of high-risk pregnancies and developing a management plan to improve the outcome for both the mother and newborn.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Ivo Meinhold-Heerlein, the medical staff of obstetricians, surgeons, and physicians treats over 3,500 inpatients every year. 650 newborns are delivered annually in the four state-of-the-art delivery rooms of the department.
