Department of Neurosurgery

Department of Neurosurgery at University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg provides surgical care for patients with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems. The department directs special attention towards the field of brain and pituitary gland tumors as well as vascular neurosurgery. The most commonly performed procedures are for the treatment of epilepsy, paresis, and brain masses. The department is one of the few facilities in Europe that offers specialists for the use of fluorescence labeling, such as fluorescence labeling (5-Ala) for the treatment of brain neoplasms.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Eberhard Uhl, the medical team treats more than 1,250 inpatients and performs about 2,000 surgical procedures every year. The surgeons of the department carry out about 600 surgical interventions annually with the use of innovative surgical techniques, so, the department has been recognized by the German Spine Society and the German Society of Neurosurgery and as the Center for the Second Opinion of the German Spine Society.
