Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Metabolic Disorders at University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg provides care for patients with diabetes mellitus, diseases of endocrine glands, and hormone balance. The department has achieved impressive success in the treatment of osteoporosis using kyphoplasty and injection of bisphosphonates. The Thyroid Center provides the full range of conservative and surgical therapeutics for goiter as well as nutritional care for patients of all ages.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Andreas Schäffler, the department treats over 650 inpatients every year, over 25% of which are diabetic patients. The diabetology unit of the department offers care for patients with diabetes mellitus type 1, diabetes mellitus type 2, gestational diabetes, and other types as well.
