Department of Cardiology and Angiology at University Hospital of Giessen and Marburg provides care for patients with congenital and acquired diseases of the heart and blood vessels. According to FOCUS Magazine, the department is one of the best medical institutions in Germany as it has achieved impressive success in the implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators, and contractility modulation devices. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Christian Hamm, the medical team performs 4,000 catheter interventions and treats over 3,000 inpatients every year.
The department is composed of an intensive care unit, an intermediate care unit, a general ward, a day hospital, an ambulance, and three state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories. The specialized unit for angiology is concerned with the early detection and treatment of diseases of the arteries, veins, lymphatics, and lymph nodes with the use of the latest, state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics.
