Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine I at University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein is a maximum care provider that follows the latest, highest-level of national and international standards of patient care for infants, children, and adolescents with diseases of the blood, endocrine glands, digestive tract, liver, pancreas, kidneys, and lungs as well as tumors, infectious, allergic, and rheumatological diseases. The Pneumology and Allergology unit works in close cooperation with the Center for Cystic Fibrosis of the Municipal Hospital Clinic to ensure patients are getting the optimal care. The previously mentioned units, along with the specialized stations for Pediatric Rheumatology, Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology as well as Pediatric Nephrology, treat over 1,650 inpatients every year, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Martin Schrappe.
As a Children’s Oncological Center that is certified by the German Cancer Society and the Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Society, the facility offers the full spectrum of therapy options to patients with hematological diseases, especially acute leukemia, such as stem cell and bone marrow transplantation. The Kiel Hormone Center for Children and Adolescents is a member of the Hormone Center North that specially focuses on the care of patients with diabetes.
