Department of Ophthalmology at University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein provides the full range of conservative and surgical care for over 3,000 inpatients with diseases of the eyes and orbit. The department consists of four state-of-the-art operating theaters where experienced surgeons, surgical nurses, and anesthesiologists work together to ensure optimal care for patients. The Laser unit has various laser devices available for the treatment of many eye diseases, including pattern scanning laser, YAG laser, PASCAL laser, and Excimer laser.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Johann Roider, the department is certified according to the DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. The department is well-known for its corneal bank that enables the surgeons to perform keratoplasty, corneal transplant. The research ophthalmology team conducts many projects in the form of basic research studies and experimental ophthalmology on subjects such as age-related macular degeneration and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
