Department of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein provides the full spectrum of the latest radioactive-fueled equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, specifically thyroid disorders. As an advanced center that follows the standards of the DIN EN ISO 9001:2015, the facility works in cooperation with HELIOS Klinikum Schleswig to ensure the best patient care. The main focus of nuclear medicine is directed towards the management of thyroid diseases, thus the thyroid unit is a part of the interdisciplinary Thyroid Center of UKSH campus Kiel where the medical team works with specialists of the Endocrinology and General Surgery Departments to ensure the best care for each patient.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Ulf Lützen, the staff treats over 500 inpatients every year, including patients with joint inflammation. Nuclear medicine methods such as scintigraphy and radio synovial orthosis (RSO) can be used as an effective method of the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis.
