Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein provides care for pregnant women and newborns as well as women with diseases of the reproductive organs. The gynecology clinic is an advanced facility with the latest, cutting-edge diagnostics and therapeutics such as The Da Vinci robot system. The medical team of surgeons performs minimally invasive procedures, also known as laparoscopy, which is effective for the treatment of many diseases such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and adhesions. The Kiel Breast Center, established in 1996, is the first interdisciplinary center where both the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Department for Diagnostic Radiology work together for early detection of breast cancer and the development of a proper, tailor-made treatment plan. The department is a significant member of the UKSH Kiel’s Continence and Pelvic Floor Center that has been certified by the German Continence Society for its success for the treatment of pelvic floor disorders such as pelvic prolapse.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Nicolai Maass, common diseases of the female productive organs have specialized centers where specialist doctors and nurses provide optimal care such as Fertility Center, Center for Familial Breast & Ovarian Cancer, Fibroid Center, and Endometriosis Center. The Obstetrics division offers modern, family-oriented, and safe obstetrics care where midwives take care of both the baby and the mother and the neonatologists are always around the clock to provide care and support to newborns with both congenital and acquired diseases.
