Department of General, Visceral, Thoracic, Transplant, and Pediatric Surgery at University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein has a highly qualified medical team of experienced surgeons that provide care for over 2,600 inpatients every year with diseases requiring surgical interventions. The department is an ultra-modern facility with the latest, state-of-the-art instruments to perform minimally invasive procedures as well as complex operations using the robot Da Vinci surgery system. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Thomas Becker, the facility is a maximum care provider that focuses on the treatment of tumors of the digestive tract, lung, peritoneum, liver, and pancreas as it’s certified by the specialized German Society for Lung Cancer and the German Society for Visceral Oncology as a pancreatic carcinoma center as well as a colon cancer center.
The Center for Obesity Medicine is a part of the Obesity Cooperation Network of the Schleswig-Holstein University Hospital as it has achieved impressive results in obesity and metabolic surgery for the treatment of pathological obesity. A special feature of the department is the Transplant Team that performs the full range of transplantation surgeries, especially liver transplant. The research unit works in close cooperation with the Institute for Experimental Tumor Research in conducting both basic research and clinical trials.
