Department of Otolaryngology

Department of Otolaryngology at the University Hospital Saarland offers care in the form of diagnosis and treatment for patients with conditions related to the ear, nose, and throat. The department provides all conservative and surgical methods for treating neck, nose and ear diseases. 
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Med. Bernhard Schick, the department treats about 3,000 inpatients and 24,000 outpatients every year. The department consists of 35 beds along with highly experienced doctors and staff with state-of-the-art medical equipment to ensure optimal care for patients.
The department directs a special focus on head and neck tumors. Consultation, medical examination along with innovative techniques are all steps taken by the department to properly diagnose malignancies. Only after that, a management plan is set custom-made for each patient. The department has an extra special feature which is, the innovative robotic system Da Vinci. This robotic system reduces pain and blood loss during operations. A Sleep Laboratory is within the specialties of this department as well. Diagnosis and treatment of all types of sleep disorders are done with great care.
