Department of Internal Medicine IV - Kidney and Hypertensive Diseases

Department of Internal Medicine IV - Kidney and Hypertensive Diseases at the University Hospital Saarland offers care in the form of diagnosis and treatment for patients with kidney disorders and disorders that affect the blood pressure in particular.
Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. med. Danilo Fliser, the department treats nearly 1,700 inpatients and 2,500 outpatients every year. The department consist of 35 beds along with highly experienced doctors and staff with state-of-the-art medical equipment to ensure optimal care for patients.
The department is in close cooperation with the Department of Urology and both departments together have succeeded in performing more than 350 kidney transplantations. Kidney disorders have a psychological toll on patients that may cause physical effects as well. That’s why the department provides psychological support for the patients as well.
The department has an impressive history of research activities. The current focuses of the research unit are at the complications of cardiovascular diseases and the prevention of progression of kidney disorders. With the help of the German Research Foundation, the Else Kroner and the European Union, the department is making great progress in diagnostics and therapeutics.

Department of Internal Medicine IV - Kidney and Hypertensive Diseases at the University Hospital Saarland is specialized in:

•    Kidney transplantation and care for the patients after the procedure
•    Diagnosis and treatment of water-electrolyte imbalance
•    Inflammation of blood vessels of the kidney
