Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at University Hospital RWTH Aachen provides care for women in their reproductive periods, pregnant women and newborns. This department consists of three main units, gynecology, obstetrics, and the breast center. It's ranked as one of the best institutions of its kind in Germany. With Prof. Dr. med. Elmar Stickeler as head of the department, more than 4,000 inpatients are treated there annually.
The Gynecology unit of this department offers its service for women during and after their reproductive period. All diseases of the female reproductive system are treated in this department, such as inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune and oncological disorders. The department offers consultation, especially for younger girls. The department is a certified Endometriosis Center of Level III. It also has a specialized center for gynecological cancer. Other disorders such as dysplasia and continence also have their specialized centers. One of the special features of this department is its Breast Center. It’s recognized by the German Senology Society and the German Cancer Society.
Another unit of the department is the Obstetrics unit. The department has pregnant and postpartum wards consisting of 28 beds. It provides care for babies before, during and after delivery. Prenatal care consists of running the needed tests and imaging to make sure the baby is healthy and ensure safe delivery. This unit is the concerned unit of pregnant women’s outpatient care. Conducting the required tests and examination to detect high-risk pregnancies and developing a management plan to guarantee the mother and baby health. The department is also established as a perinatal center of the highest level.
