Department of Nephrology, Rheumatology, Osteology, and Endocrinology at University Hospital Jena provides care for patients with diseases of the kidney, endocrine glands, and bones as well as rheumatic diseases. The department focuses on optimal care for diabetes mellitus type 1 and types 2 as well as thyroid, pituitary, and rheumatological diseases. It is also considered as one of the best facilities for the treatment of diabetes mellitus in Germany, according to FOCUS Magazine. The nephrological unit of the department offers cutting-edge diagnostics, conservative and surgical therapeutics for the management of chronic kidney disease, hypertension, kidney tumors, and kidney failure. All units of the department offer medical services that follow the guidelines of the national and international standards. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Med. Gunter Wolf, the department treats nearly 4,200 patients every year, 200 of which are diabetic patients.
