Department of Obstetrics at University Hospital Stuttgart provides the full range of care for pregnant women, newborns, and mothers during and after the delivery. The department, together with the Department of Neonatology, forms the Perinatal Center, the leading maternity facility in the Stuttgart region, and one of the best 20 maternity hospitals in Germany. It offers the highest level of care for newborns and mothers. Care for abnormally small premature newborns, surgical treatment of congenital and acquired malformations, 24 hours EEG monitoring, and interdisciplinary advice are all offered among the management plan. As an ultra-modern institution, the department has been recognized by the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM).
The facility is involved in certified institutions such as the Gynecological Cancer Center as well as the Pelvic Floor Center to ensure optimal care for patients. The medical staff treats over 5,900 inpatients and delivers about 3,285 births every year, around 1,200 of which are premature babies receive intensive care in the neonatology unit of the Olga Hospital.
