Department of Neurosurgery s at University Hospital Stuttgart, located at the Katharinen Hospital, provides maximum surgical care for patients with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. The department is one of the top facilities in Germany that has been certified by the Stuttgart Cancer Center (SCC) - Eva Mayr-Stihl Tumor Center for its success in the treatment of brain tumors. The clinic is an ultra-modern facility that performs advanced surgical procedures through the latest, state-of-the-art equipment and instrument. The medical staff directs special attention towards minimally invasive procedures, endoscope-guided surgical techniques, as they have better results and less risk of complications. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Oliver Ganslandt, the medical team treats about 2,000 inpatients every year in the clinic and the Stuttgart Neuro Center. Neurosurgical specialists work together with the medical team of both clinics for Neurology and Neuroradiology to develop the best management plan for each patient in the center.
As a member of the Stuttgart Spine Center, the department pays special attention to spine surgery as well as pediatric and vascular neurosurgery. The clinic also collaborates with the Clinic for Trauma Surgery and Orthopedics at both Katharinen Hospital and Olga Hospital for the management of patients with degenerative spinal diseases and tumors. Due to its achievements and success in the spinal surgery field, the German Spine Society has certified the facility as the first maximum spinal surgery care in Baden-Württemberg of Leve I.
