Department of Neurology

Department of Neurology at University Hospital Stuttgart, located in the Katharinen Hospital, works in close cooperation with the Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology clinics in the Stuttgart Neuro Center for the treatment of neurological disorders. The main focus of the department is the treatment of acute strokes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and epilepsy. The medical team treats stroke patients through the latest diagnostics and therapeutics in the stroke center, certified by the German Stroke Society and the German Stroke Aid Foundation. The care offered also involves transferring patients to the Schmieder Clinic for specialized early rehabilitation.
The German Multiple Sclerosis Society has certified the department as a Recognized MS Center as it treats over 450 patients every year according to the latest standards. The clinic has a bed capacity of 80 beds where the medical staff treats 4,000 inpatients every year, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Hansjörg Bäzner, who is recognized by FOCUS Magazine as one of the top doctors in Germany in the field of epileptology.
